Museum Kampa-The Foundation of Jan and Meda Mládek has opened in the fall of 2003 and hosts a unique collection of art works by key Czech modern and early modern artists, such as the Czech abstractionist Franti?ek Kupka, the one and only cubist sculptor Otto Gutfreund, as well as a wide collection of modern art from Central Europe. The art collector and benefactor Mrs. Meda Mládek put together this collection along with her husband Jan Mládek. Eventually she donated this collection to the City of Prague and situated it in the reconstructed Sova’s Mills. Along the exhibited permanent collection, Museum Kampa also engages in the presentation of many temporary exhibitions focusing namely on modern and contemporary art. Among those who have been exhibited in the museum in the past are Yoko Ono, Frank Malina, Joseph Beuys, Piet Mondrian, Theodor Pi?t?k or Andy Warhol, just to name a few. The aim of Museum Kampa is to bring art closer to the public. For this reason our educational department prepares a series of interesting workshops and lectures for both short-term exhibitions as well as the permanent collection.
